This week, Dickerson Florida Inc. of Fort Pierce began dredging to deepen the inlet and remove sand from a 42-acre depression area that traps sand before it can get into the channel. The $1.3 million project also will pump about 150,000 cubic yards of sand onto beaches south of the inlet.
